My Life was established in 2012 as a result of a group of people with disabilities and their families wanting something different to traditional types of health/social care services and wanting more choice and control over their own lives. My Life currently provides care and support to a growing number of individuals who have complex health and/or social care needs across the Northwest of England. Our staff are integral to the success of the charity as they are the ones making a real difference to people’s lives.
What you’ll need to Succeed
In order to succeed, you will be kind-hearted and interested in making a positive difference to a young boy’s life. You will have experience working as a Personal Assistant and/or Support Worker and you will have supported young people with a range of support needs. You will be self-motivated, flexible and have the ability to use your own initiative while being caring and sensitive to the needs of others. Ideally you will be experienced in supporting people who are PEG fed but full training will be given. You will hold a full driving licence.
The role will be to provide support from Monday to Friday and an 8 hour shift every other Saturday. As part of the My Life team, you will ensure that care is provided in a way that respects this young person and promotes his independence.

Job description
We are looking for a Personal Assistant / Support Worker who is enthusiastic, empathic, genuine and patient people to join our team, who are interested in making a difference to two adult young men’s lives.
As a team of Personal Assistant / Support Workers, we support two autistic twin men in their own home, using a range of research-based approaches, such as person centred therapy, elements of applied behaviour analysis, picture exchange communication systems and a low-arousal approach.
Duties
- To assist in the design and implementation of therapeutic programmes.
- To support the individual to be autonomous in self-care.
- To monitor and take accurate data daily.
- To support individuals during times of challenging behaviour.
- To model best practice and professionalism at all times.
- To support the individual in their domestic skills.
- To attend mandatory training, supervision and team meetings.
- To promote safeguarding and wellbeing for the individuals.
- Flexibility to work during evenings and weekends and provide cover.
- To work or be down for cover every other Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Eve.
- To support the individual hiking, cycling and in other similar activities.

Essential

There is a Support Worker role available supporting a young man 24/7 to live his best life. He lives alone in his own home but close to his very supportive family. He is a wheelchair user, he has complex epilepsy and he needs assistance with all aspects of daily living including personal care.
This individual usually enjoys a busy week with his support which involves a range of activities including going to the cinema, the pub, shopping, swimming, skiing at Chill factore, speedboating and trampolining. However, at the moment due to COVID, his access to the community is restricted to just swimming. There is still lots to do but activities are currently home based or involve getting out and about locally for some fresh air.
As part of the My Life team, you will ensure that care is provided in a way that respects the individual and promotes his independence.
What you’ll need to Succeed
In order to succeed, you will have experience working as a Support Worker/Personal Assistant with people with Learning Disabilities. You will be kind-hearted, fun and you will be highly motivated to make a positive difference to this young man’s life. You will be a flexible team worker with the ability to use your own initiative whilst being caring and sensitive to the needs of others. An understanding of epilepsy would be advantageous along with experience in social care working with people who don’t use words to speak.

What you’ll need to Succeed
In order to succeed, you will ideally have experience with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and experience working with individuals with complex behavioural difficulties will also be highly advantageous. You will be a strong character, resilient, robust and really interested in supporting this individual in a way that makes him feel safe and fully secure. You will be self-motivated, flexible and have the ability to use your own initiative whilst being caring and sensitive to the needs of others. Your Responsibilities
As Support Worker / Personal Assistant within our Peripatetic Team you will be working across a number of our community and site based teams. You will be an experienced Support Worker / Personal Assistant and you will have supported people with Autism, Learning Difficulties, Mental Health issues and / or people with physical disabilities. Ideally you will have some experience of healthcare tasks such as PEG feeding and be medication trained but full training will be given.
Fundamentally, you will be working with existing teams on shift to deliver support as well as carrying out care audits, delivering training and being part of the quality control team to ensure systems/processes are followed and care delivered to the requisite high standard.
